I found a Codex usage tracker I like

I tried OpenUsage, CodeNotch, and CodexBar to find a Codex usage tracker that feels right on my Mac.

I just wanted something to show me my Codex usage. I ended up trying OpenUsage (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці), CodeNotch (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці), and CodexBar (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці).

For now, I'm keeping CodexBar. I'm picky about software, even a small utility like this.

OpenUsage

OpenUsage was a good experience overall, but the interface didn't feel quite polished. During testing, the interface flickered a lot and kept redrawing. Icons also changed size when I interacted with the app.

I liked having my usage in the menu bar, but the flickering and resizing were distracting. The design itself is pretty boring in a good way, and there's plenty to customize.

One feature I really like is copying a usage image with a button and pasting it wherever I need it. These are the light and dark versions from OpenUsage.

CodeNotch

CodeNotch looks amazing on the right side of the screen. Visually, it was my favorite of the three. The animation is great, too.

I still wanted more features, though. I liked the look enough that I might come back to it, but it wasn't my pick this time.

CodexBar

CodexBar ticks all my boxes. It feels more like a native Apple app, it's fast, and it does what I need. With a bit of customization, it looks just the way I want it. Its display settings (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці) cover icons, labels, usage bars, and how reset times appear. I appreciate being able to adjust those details.

It also looks well maintained to me. The release history (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці) gave me more confidence in it.

When I checked on September 11, 2026, CodexBar (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці) had about 21.2k GitHub stars, compared with about 4.1k for OpenUsage (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці) and 1.4k for CodeNotch (opens in a new tab) (відкриється в новій вкладці). The larger following was reassuring. I chose it because it worked well for me.

I might revisit these apps. For now, I needed something to show me my Codex usage, and CodexBar does that really well for me.
